When planning the new City Cemetery, the Belfast Corporation purchased 101 acres of land from the Sinclair family, 57 acres was designated towards a new city park. It was officially established in 1873.

Ranger’s Lodge

Ranger’s Lodge

The Ranger’s Lodge was built in 1879 and is a listed building.

The West Belfast Historical Society meets at Falls Park Pavilion on a monthly basis.

Falls Park Playing Fields

Popular with young people, the park includes Falls Park Playing Fields which feature soccer pitches, a bowling green and Gaelic football, hurling and camogie pitches. The sporting heritage of the area is closely linked to Casement Park on the Andersonstown Road, the principal Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) park in the north of Ireland.

GAA

The Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (GAA) is a 32 county sporting and cultural organisation that has a presence on all five continents. It was founded in 1884 and today is Ireland’s largest sporting organisation. The GAA is celebrated as one of the great amateur sporting associations in the world today.
